Mrinal Kulkarni, a film and television actor-director, has joined the Board Of Founders of the video streaming service Planet Marathi OTT. “Because the web is a worldwide platform with minimal restrictions, it’s a perfect place to show off the potential and power of the material.” I commend the Planet Marathi OTT team for setting high standards, refusing to settle for less, and for forging new paths for the Marathi web. I’m excited to be able to contribute my thoughts and experience to the platform’s efforts in my new capacity. It gives me great joy to announce that we are set to take the OTT space to the next level “In a statement, Kulkarni added. Planet Marathi OTT producer and creator Akshay Bardapurkar stated Kulkarni has raised the platform’s degree of expertise. “Mrinal embodies a keen sense of business, innovation, and craft, all of which are desperately required in the OTT market.” Her knowledge and vision will help us achieve our goal of bringing Marathi content to the rest of the globe ” he added.
According to a recent Ficci EY analysis, the share of regional languages in overall OTT (over-the-top) video content will quadruple from 27% in 2020 to 54% in 2024, as more streaming platforms embrace vernacular programming and films. Only 47% of OTT originals and 69 percent of films released on platforms in 2021 were in Hindi.
Avantika, Yellow, Farzand, and Ye Re Ye Re Paisa have all featured Kulkarni in leading parts.
Following in the footsteps of global giants Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, OTT platforms such as VOOT, SonyLIV, and Disney+ Hotstar are acquiring films in the four southern languages besides Marathi and Punjabi in order to attract customers from tier-II and tier-III areas.
Planet Marathi OTT has been a visionary for Marathi web content as the world’s only Marathi OTT Platform. Original mega-hits like Raanbaazaar, June, and Anuradha, to name a few, it attracted consumers and the industry in a short period of time, bringing about a shift in the way Marathi OTT was seen. Planet Marathi OTT is putting together exceptional teams and management and building a thriving space for outstanding stories, qualified technicians, and bright talent, with the goal of becoming a genuinely global platform and taking Marathi content abroad.
