India’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki India which holds around 53 percent share in the Indian car market entered into the health care sector. The company which had a partnership with Zydus Hospital started a new multi-specialty hospital at Sitapur in the Ahmedabad district of Gujarat. Zydus Hospital is a subsidiary unit of Cardia Healthcare, a pharma major, and is one of the largest super multi-specialty hospital networks in Gujarat. The hospital makes use of Gemstone Spectral Imaging Technology and has received a world green-OT award. The Zydus Hospital has acquired the Ahmedabad unit of Columbia Asia Hospital on an undisclosed amount in the year 2018.

The project has costed around Rs 126 crore and is fully funded by Maruti Suzuki as part of its CSR initiative. The functioning of the hospital will be undertaken by the CSR group of Zydus Hospital i.e., Ramanbhai Foundation.  At present, it started functioning as a covid care facility. According to Kenichi Ayukawa, (MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India), there was no medical facility in the region when the company started its operation in Gujarat. Thus the company decided to set up a hospital in the region and partnered with the best health care group Zydus Hospital. Since it was in the midst of the covid-19 crisis, the company transformed the hospital into a covid care facility to help the nation to fight against the pandemic.

The hospital is expected to provide health care services to around 3.75 lakh people residing in the Sitapur and nearby villages for a reasonable price. The hospital started with a 50-bed facility and can be expanded in the nearby future to a 100-bed facility as there is sufficient infrastructure for the same. The hospital has around 7.5 acres of land and is the first super specialty hospital in the region. The hospital functions as a 24X7 super-specialty hospital and offers various services in the field of cardiology, optometry, ENT, general medicine, emergency medicine, trauma care, critical care units, mother and child care, and super specialty diagnostics. Additionally, the hospital has 20 two- BHK flats and a dormitory facility for the staff.
