WhatsApp has recently changed its privacy policy. It adopts a new method of letting users know about the changed policy. WhatsApp is now using the status messages to update users about the changes that happened in the privacy policy. The shift to other messaging apps like Telegram and Signal is happened due to the privacy policy put forward by WhatsApp. This messaging platform is considering the status messages as an opportunity to clarify the privacy policy and its updates.
India is already familiar with the status messages but now it has also started to appear in the United Kingdom and the United States. They are trying to coveys the message is that all the chats are end-to-end encrypted that is WhatsApp can read or listen to your conversations. The status messages will come in the form of status and they will appear at the top of all the messages of your contacts. The major reason behind this is there is a lot of misinformation is coming regarding the privacy and security of WhatsApp. This generates confusion in the mind of users. WhatsApp is trying directly to convey the correct idea regarding privacy and security through the status messages. Most of the users were tensed about personal chats and conversations that are passing through this messaging platform. A mass shift to the other messaging platforms happened due to this and many users found Signal and Telegram as the safest ones. But the attempt of the status message again helps them to bring back the trust towards WhatsApp.
According to a study conducted by the Gurgaon-based Cybermedia Research (CMR), 79 percent are ready to reconsider WhatsApp, and 29 percent of users are quite determined to leave once the privacy policy comes into effect. The study found that 49 percent of users are angry, 45 percent of users are not ready to trust WhatsApp again and 35 percent of users think that the trust has been breached. And 10 percent of users have nothing to say about WhatsApp’s new policies related to privacy and security. The study is revealing about the migrated group of people. It shows that most of the people preferred Telegram and no the Signal. 41 percent of users choose Telegram and 35 percent of users choose the Signal App. The behavior of the customers is different from another at the time of privacy policy changes.
