Newshunt acquires BuyT to improve its presence in e-commerce

NewsHunt  is a mobile app that make people  updated with news from different sources such as newspapers, news websites and feeds .It is a Bengaluru based company and was launched in 2010.It has more than 20 million active users accessing news every day. Using NewsHunt news can be accessed using mobile internet in regional languages such as Tamil, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu. It gets over 2.5 billion page views every month. It has created a vibrant marketplace for publishers and had over 15 million local language e-Books downloaded in the past six months. The company has launched iPayy, which is a micro transaction platform based on carrier billing. NewsHunt is on all the top mobile platforms which can be downloaded and used. In the first quarter of this year NewsHunt has acquired Vauntz a mobile analytics startup. And they are looking to invest or acquire other companies that are developing local-language applications.

Prior to this acquisition NewsHunt has  raised Rs.120 Cr as Series C round fund of venture capital  from Falcon Edge a US based hedge funders. It also raised an amount of   Rs.1800 Cr from its  existing investors in India such as Matrix Partners India, Sequoia Capital India and Omidyar Network .

Marking its entry into the fast-growing e-retailing market local language mobile platform NewsHunt has acquired BuyT ContentLink. This is a New Delhi based company and is owned by Rocket Science Innovations Private Ltd. It was founded in 2012 by Yogesh Tomar and Biswanath Patel. A ContentLink enables the easy flow of information from a service provider to the consumer. BuyT has a product discovery and recommendation platform known as BuyT ContentLink which integrates content with e-commerce and makes product recommendation available to the consumer’s interest. It searches all major e-commerce websites for their product updates and analyzes its context and behavior of consumers on its web pages. For this the company has made marketing partnerships with leading e-commerce marketplaces such as Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal. With this acquisition of BuyT, NewsHunt will earn additional revenue in the form of commission as it will be also providing consumer contextual recommendation of products and services to NewsHunt users.
