Newton School of Technology-Rishihood University is happy to announce the joining of academician Dr K. Gopinath as a Senior Professor for the on-campus Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Dr Gopinath has more than 30 years of experience in academia having earned his Ph.D.  from Stanford University, USA, and served as a Professor at IISc, Bangalore till his retirement.
Dr. Gopinath has an abiding interest in and has contributed to topics such as how to engineer more efficient computer systems (including the use of AI for improving computer systems), computational thinking (especially its role in Indic thinking) and understanding the intersection of technology with society and public policy.
He has published many articles in some of the most competitive research forums in CS and has co-authored 2 books (“Resource Proportional Software Design for Emerging Systems”, Chapman and Hall, 2021, and “THE COMPUTATION MEME: COMPUTATIONAL THINKING IN THE INDIC TRADITION”, IIScPress, 2024). He was instrumental in organizing the first conference on “IPR and its impact on CS in India” in 1993.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr K. Gopinath said, “Joining Newton School of Technology-Rishihood University is interesting for me in understanding how to scale CS education in India that is not only authentic but is also rooted in Indian tradition and reality, and that values both theoretical knowledge and its practical applications. The appointment comes ahead of the second year of NST, which aims to elevate learning and education on-campus to newer heights. The institute is dedicated to the development of India’s future tech talent and actively seeks to provide necessary support to the students.
