June 7, 2014: Close on the heels of reports that Nissan would be launching more SUV models in India, the Japanese carmaker released a teaser video of its new global pick-up model Nissan Navara online. Nissan has hinted that the company would be introducing a full sized SUV based on the Nissan Navara platform in India. Nissan which has just Terrano, the compact SUV in India had earlier discontinued its other SUV Nissan X-Trail this year. It is speculated that Nissan would be relaunching X-Trail and Qashqai and it would be assembled locally.
Nissan is betting big on new SUV models to spruce up its market share and make a mark in the Indian market. The new Nissan SUV on the Navara Platform if launched would be competing with the popular Toyota Fortuner which interestingly shares its platform with Toyota Hilux pick up. Nissan is one of the most successful SUV makers in the world and the company would like to be known more in this segment. Nissan in all possibility is like to bring in a full sized seven seater SUV rather than a compact one. Though speculations are rife that new Nissan SUV would share the platform with new Nissan Navara and Andy Palmer, Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Global have not ruled out the possibility, till the time it is actually launched it would remain a speculation only.
