Espoo, Finland-Nokia today reported that Thai mobile operator dtac, part of Telenor Group, has been selected as its first 5G RAN partner in a three-year contract covering Thailand’s North and North Eastern regions. With this agreement, Nokia plays a key role in ensuring that the network output of dtac is completely 5G-ready and allowing new 5G services to be rolled out faster as demand increases. Nokia will provide 4G and 5G networks with its Air Scale Radio Connectivity solutions, and dtac will also implement the NetAct Cloud network management system from Nokia Software. To support the dtac network, including a software-defined network (SDN)-ready IP/Optical network, Nokia has also offered solutions from its IP/Optical portfolio. Finish telecom gear manufacturer Nokia Monday said that Thai mobile operator dtac, part of the Telenor Group, bagged a three-year 5G RAN contract to carry out 5G services in the country’s North and North-East regions.

Nokia will introduce 5G on the low band spectrum (700-900Mhz) and mmWave band (26GHz) under the agreement, and will also expand networks on the spectrum bands of 2300Mhz, 2100Mhz, and 1800Mhz. Nokia will have 4G and 5G networks with its AirScale Radio Connectivity solutions, and dtac will also deploy

Nokia has been introducing 2G, 3G, and 4G networks in Thailand for over 30 years and will now have 5G connectivity that will boost the country’s digitalization efforts as part of its ‘Thailand 4.0’ economic strategy. It is planned that the deployment will start later this year, with completion expected in 2022. An expedited large-scale rollout of 5G on low-band spectrum (700-900Mhz) and high-capacity mmWave will be seen in the agreement, which is an expansion of Nokia’s current collaboration with dtac.

Nokia will provide 4G and 5G networks with its Air Scale Radio Connectivity solutions that will boost overall network efficiency while allowing dtac to deliver ultra-low latency and intense bandwidth 5G experience. Air Scale Radio Access is the first commercial 5G solution in the industry to enable operators to capitalize on 5G at an early stage. The offer includes digital deployment for quicker time to market, as well as optimization services. Dtac will also deploy NetAct Cloud Network Management System from Nokia Software. Nokia is a long-standing affiliate of dtac and has previously supplied Thailand with the first commercial 4G TDD network. To improve its network, including a software-defined network (SDN)-ready IP/Optical network, Nokia has also provided solutions from its IP/Optical portfolio.
