Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), has recently made bus ticket booking possible by introducing the online bus ticketing service on their platform. Bus ticket booking will also be soon available on the IRCTC Rail connect app. IRCTC has associated with redBus, one of the leading bus ticketing platforms in India to provide this new booking provision, for its over 20 million registered users.
IRCTC will be offering its users 24000 daily bus services, from a collection of 2600+ private bus operators, provided by redBus. The service includes intercity booking for Sleeper/ Non-sleeper and AC/Non-AC buses. These buses plying through major cities across the country can cater to a daily capacity of 1.2 million travelers.
Additionally, IRCTC users will also be updated with additional features like choice of boarding and dropping points and the option to choose the safest bus available on the selected route, covered under the redBus Safety+ program. The travelers will also be able to access information regarding the bus number and contact details of bus staff before departure.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a switch in travel patterns among citizens, with passenger train services being suspended during the lockdown and subsequently more travelers resorting to buses as the mode of commute or travel. The trends for redBus also show a surge in travel from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities contributing to 62% of their current bookings.
With this recent spike in demand for online bus booking, online bus ticketing platforms have now become more prominent than ever before.
