OYO CEO and Founder Ritesh Agarwal was proud to announce that the company’s 2021 bookings were the largest since the pandemic began in March 2020.
The company hit about 110 crore bookings or 14.5 million bookings globally over the new year weekend. Mr Agarwal expressed that it was an eventful year for the team. Right after New Year’s, he released an interesting statistic on Twitter.
He stated that it was a rather busy weekend for the company on New Year weekend and gave an approximate comparison of bookings in 2016 and 2021.
In 2016, OYO had 102K bookings on December 30 and 31. In 2021, OYO saw a rapid rise with 503K bookings on December 30 and 31. Mr Agarwal thanked over a million people on LinkedIn saying that over half a million have spent their nights in OYO on New Year’s.
He continued in his tweets stating that around 58%. of bookings were on December 31st, 2021. It was about 61% in 2020, 57% in 2019 and 63% in 2018. 2017 saw about 57% of bookings. But The bookings were at an all-time high of 69% in the whole of 2021.
Agarwal expressed that the company has grown from its inception. When the company had started in 2015, it had branches in 127 cities and 1,229 storefronts. Back then, the company only had a foundation largely in India and one in Malaysia.
Presently, in 2021 OYO hotels are found in 10,000 cities and 160,000 storefronts. It had foundations in over 35 countries. The company has only started its worldwide expansion.
Agarwal also expressed that although the year was exceptional for them, the team also learned a lot about customer experience. He said that the company is still making improvements to satisfy the customers. How the year went will help the team push forward and make an impact.
He concluded that although 2020 and 2021 had their ups and downs, the company is ready to face what 2022 has in store for them and will be at the forefront to accept new challenges and opportunities to grow and build better.
