Google India had temporarily removed the Paytm app from the Android Play Store for several hours, claiming that they had violated its guidelines on gambling for developers. The ban was imposed on the 18th of September. Paytm had alleged that the cashback scheme was the reason for it being dropped from the Android platform. The app was restored after the company complied with the rules on the matter set by Google.

Paytm said that they would remain firm on their stance on the action taken by Google. They also have made some changes to their promotions so that the cricket celebrations with the users may continue uninterrupted. The theme of the ‘Paytm Cricket League’ remains the same. Users may get Cricket Player Sticker on each transaction, and earn cashback on collecting them.

Google India was objecting to the integration of real money gaming websites or apps into Paytm’s main app. Paytm replied to the allegation by saying that, what Google alleged to be real money gaming or gambling as two of its new cashback schemes which would allow users to earn scratch cards on its new platform during IPL. Along with the main app, Paytm First Games and Paytm fantasy sports app was also removed from the Android Play Store on the same day. With a few corrections and updations, Paytm has brought this UPI-led cashback scheme back to its app.

Paytm on Monday said that they would like to assure the Paytm users that they have never been involved in anything that can be considered gambling or betting. Paytm believes that such accusatory labeling and arbitrary actions go against the laws of the country and acceptable norms of fair competition by deliberately depriving the users of innovative services.

Paytm claims that its users can earn Paytm cricket Player Stickers through its Paytm Cricket League cashback. The users can add them to their albums on the Paytm app. On completing player sticker related achievements, Paytm users are eligible to get cashback up to Rs 1,000. Through a blog, Paytm alleged the ban as an arm-twisting tactic by the global search engine. They also said that Google hadn’t given them an opportunity to explain its new cashback sticker feature.
