PC sales are gaining momentum rapidly. Pandemic has pushed the demand for computers to an all-time high. Due to working from home and online classes, people are demanding more computers and other smart devices.
There are also various advantages of using a PC. It has the option of changing every single part easily. The maintenance cost of a PC is also less compared to laptops.
Annually PC sales are increasing at a rate of 48% in the first quarter of the year. Despite the restrictions in China, sales are increasing. It is because companies have started to manufacture PCs locally in India. Overall, 18% of the PCs selling in India, are manufactured locally.
In the entire computer segment, Tablets saw the highest growth. It accounted for 69% of growth annually. This demand has been mainly due to the increase in demand from the government and many other commercial organizations.
Laptop sales are also increasing at a rapid. They account for 36% of the sales annually. In total, 3.4 million laptops are being shipped to India. On the sidelines, as more offices are going offline, this demand is going to increase even more.
In terms of companies, HP was the highest gainer. In total, it shipped 1,449,000 units in India. This number accounts for 25% of the sales. Lenovo is second on the list. It accounts for 20% of the shipment. Acer is third on the list with an 11% share followed by Dell and Samsung. Dell has a 10% share and Samsung has 7% in terms of shipment.
On the other hand, it is also believed that PC sales will decline once everything is back to normal. Along with RBI’s increase in base lending rates, there will be fewer resources for the companies to spend on equipment and workforce. These factors will slow down the PC demand.
Companies are also pushing hard to gain more market space in India. They are even trying to manufacture locally even more. This is because the government wants more than 50% manufacturing locally to give any company preference for a government contract.
