Picsart, the world’s leading digital creation platform and a top 20 most downloaded app globally, announced today the acquisition of the learning platform Code Republic for an undisclosed sum to join its educational division Picsart Academy.
Picsart Academy, which has been in operation since 2016, offers world-class learning opportunities for the most qualified students in IT, including web development, AI, machine learning, data science, product management, and more.
Picsart has graduated thousands of students and receives hundreds of applications each year, with many of them getting recruited by the firm at the end of their courses. Picsart Academy will be able to provide more programmes and grow into more places due to its acquisition of Code Republic.
“Picsart was formed as a cooperation between a teacher and his pupils; therefore, education and learning have always been at the centre of our DNA,” stated Artavazd Mehrabyan, Picsart’s Co-founder and CTO. “With the aid of the brilliant and dedicated Code Republic team, we will be able to grow Picsart Academy and take teaching to the next level.”
All 20+ Code Republic workers will join the Picsart Academy team as part of the transaction. Vardan Grigoryan, the founder of Code Republic, is a resurrected Picsart employee, having previously worked there as a Senior Engineer for more than two years.
He’s also been teaching coding bootcamps regularly since 2012, where he’s honed his skills in finding and nurturing potential. Grigoryan has returned to Picsart as Director of Picsart Academy, where he will oversee the company’s educational endeavours to recruit fresh talent.
“Teaching and educating kids is my passion, which is why I started Code Republic,” Grigoryan explained. “With this acquisition, I will be able to further my purpose by gaining access to additional resources and chances to educate the next generation of engineering talent.” Joining a firm with such a strong educational focus is a natural fit for me, and I can’t wait to welcome our first class of students.”
Picsart Academy courses are available only in Armenian, but in-person classes will be held in Yerevan later this month. The company intends to introduce online English language lessons later this year and extend in-person training to new locations.
Picsart Academy’s website may be found at Picsart.Academy.Picsart’s third purchase follows the acquisitions of DeepCraft, a computer vision and artificial intelligence business, late last year and D’efekt, an advanced video effects company, in 2020.
This development followed Picsart’s first significant brand marketing campaign last month. Picsart secured $130 million in Series C fundraising last year, with a portion of the proceeds going toward acquiring firms that share its beliefs and growth approach.
