India’s renowned sports brand Puma India has announced women’s cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur as its latest brand ambassador. The sports personality will be seen as the face of the brand and will endorse the brand’s footwear, apparel, and accessories through multiple activities and campaigns throughout the year. This is seen as the company’s major step towards its commitment to support women in the sports ecosystem.
After sports personalities like Virat Kohli, MC Mary Kom, Yuvraj Singh, Sunil Chhetri, Kareena Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Avani Lekhara, and Hardy Sandhu, now Harmanpreet joins the PUMA family.
Harmanpreet Kaur was roped in over a very unique and intriguing experiment that shows the country’s mindset towards gender perception in sports. On Saturday, the brand posted on Instagram and Twitter a cryptic teaser video showing a player taking the position at the stumps and quizzing the audience to guess PUMA’s new brand ambassador. Out of 5000 responses tracked by PUMA over 36 hours, about 80% of the consumers assumed the brand ambassador to be a male cricketer. Through this game-changing video that revealed Harmanpreet Kaur as PUMA’s new brand ambassador, PUMA is breaking molds, busting archetypes, and creating a strong culture for women in cricket and other sports.
Abhishek Ganguly, managing director at PUMA India and Southeast Asia said- The way she plays like a bold and fierce cricketer-she is a perfect fit for our brand that holds the same qualities and ethos. PUMA has always stayed ahead of time to support, celebrate, and empower women in sports. This association with Harmanpreet Singh is a major step in that direction. He adds- Harmanpreet Singh is a sporting icon and with this partnership, we desire to inspire young generations and help the Indian women’s cricket team to reach higher heights.
By expressing her excitement, Harmanpreet Singh said- Not many know that I hit my first ODI century in PUMA boots that received as a token of support In my early years from the brand. Exactly a decade now and I have been launched as the face of the brand, getting the opportunity to join the biggest sports brand in the country with a star-studded roster. It’s heartening to see a big brand like PUMA supporting the growth of the Indian women’s cricket team. I am sure that this association will encourage lots of women who aspire to make a career in cricket. I look forward to an exciting journey ahead.
