According to a study, 2/3rd of Indian Adults are unaware of Adult Vaccination
Bengaluru: Rainbow Children’s Hospital, one of the pioneers of Pediatric care in India launched AVON – Adult Vaccination Outreach Network with a mission to vaccinate the adult population in the country. Being a leader in the pediatric space, the organization is now stepping into vaccinating adults. The event was held in Sheraton Hyderabad on 28th July.
With 25 years of experience in providing quality care and service to children and women in the country, Rainbow Children’s Hospital wants to cater to the immunization needs of adults through AVON. Influenza vaccine, HPV (Human papillomavirus) vaccine, Pneumococcal vaccine, and Shingles that can prevent severe infections and cancer are part of the AVON initiative.
Dr. Vikram Venkateswaran, Partner – Head, Deloitte, India, Dr. Vijay Yeldandi, Specialist in Infectious Diseases, Disorders of the Immune System, India & USA, Mr. Ratan Jalan, Founder & Managing Director, Medium Healthcare Consulting and Dr. Aishwarya Paatapati, Miss Globe India-2023 unveiled AVON and lauded the sincere efforts of Rainbow Children’s Hospital towards serving the mankind through its new initiative. The launch was followed by Panel Discussions on Protecting Adults from Preventable Diseases and Breaking Down Barriers to Adult Immunization.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramesh Kancharla, CMD, Rainbow Children’s Hospital stated, “The medical fraternity can never forget the contributions of Dr. Edward Jenner who was responsible for saving millions of lives in the world through the Smallpox vaccine and this is the only disease that has been erased from the planet.
I feel through a comprehensive project, commitment, and dedication, Rainbow Children’s Hospital can reduce the disease burden in the country. With age, immunity decreases and hence adults need to get vaccinated every year. Through repeated emphasis, we need to inculcate in the people’s minds that “Vaccinations are not just for your kids, it’s a lifesaver for adults as well”.
Rainbow Children’s Hospital demonstrated its efficiency and commitment through mass immunization during the COVID-19 pandemic. Several well-wishers, pharma companies, corporates, and the public at large wanted us to launch an adult vaccination project and
therefore, we are extremely happy to launch AVON in association with Pfizer, Sanofi and Serum Institute that can enable the citizens to have a healthier future”.
