The award-winning communication professional Roma Balwani has been named the CEO and brand custodian of the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA), the nation’s regulatory body for deaf cricket, with effect from July 2022.

Working with major organizations for more than three decades, Ms. Balwani has significantly improved the Indian PR and communication industry in several ways. She began her leadership path in the 1990s. She also serves as the Independent Director and Chair of the CSR and NRC committees of John Cockerill, India, the premier manufacturing and engineering business that specializes in cold rolling mill complexes for the steel industry.

In her new position, she would be in charge of setting up a corporate framework and making IDCA the leading organization for deaf cricket in India.

In a statement announcing this significant appointment, Sumit Jain, the president of IDCA, said, “We at IDCA are tremendously thrilled and humbled, and welcome Ms. Balwanias as our CEO and Brand Custodian. We are very appreciative of the sponsors and numerous stakeholders she brought on board for this major tournament. She has been a pillar of support, helping us mainstream Deaf Cricket in India and giving us the confidence to successfully host the first Deaf ICC T 20 World Cup with five participating nations. We appreciate her tremendous aid in establishing IDCA as a deserving non-profit organization and anticipate using it to help us advance deaf cricket internationally.

“India is at the forefront in nurturing sports and has become a sporty nation with many wins both nationally and globally,” Roma Balwani said in response to the appointment.

I feel incredibly honored to be in charge of this innovative new project that Sumit Jain founded in 2020 with the long-term goal of becoming IDCA a prominent organization for Deaf Cricket in India. My main goal as CEO of IDCA would be to help deaf youngsters develop their cricketing abilities and allow them to be coached and take part in competitions in India and overseas. I would endeavor to bring in partnerships and collaborations from like-minded businesses, governments, and sports organizations, she continued. It brings me a great deal of joy to work with IDCA to advance and market deaf cricket.

Ms. Balwani spearheaded the first-ever Deaf-ICC T20 World Cup tournament in 2018, which was played in Gurgaon, and has been instrumental in establishing deaf cricket as a mainstream sport. The competition helped IDCA gain a competitive edge by establishing new standards for international competitions, and creating new prospects.

Ms. Roma has contributed in a variety of ways throughout her prior jobs, elevating important sustainability and CSR portfolios at Vedanta Resources Limited. Ms. Balwani played a key role in creating the organization’s communications infrastructure from the ground up and in launching an influential communications movement for future generations.
