Samsung has introduced its new One UI Watch, a custom ROM for Samsung smartwatches developed in collaboration with Google. The new wristwatch skin will sit on top of Google Wear OS, which was announced in May 2021, in the same way that Samsung’s One UI interface sits atop the underlying Android software. The user experience was introduced by Samsung at the current Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will end on July 1.
The Samsung One UI Watch is touted to provide a seamless interface between the Galaxy Watch and Android smartphones, as well as access to additional Google and third-party developer apps. Samsung also announced that the forthcoming Galaxy Watch will be the first device to use the new unified platform, which will be unveiled at the Unpacked event “later this summer.” The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 4 is expected to be released in August by the South Korean electronics titan.
Samsung claims that after you’ve installed applications on the Galaxy Watch, they’ll be downloaded quickly to your smartphone as part of the new experience. For example, if users have customized the clock app on their phones to show the time in various places across the world, this will also be shown on the Galaxy Watch. Additionally, if users have set their watches to restrict calls and texts, the same settings will be applied to their smartphones. The unified platform created by Samsung and Google will also include new features and integrations with popular third-party applications that can be downloaded straight from Google Play on the Galaxy Watch.
Users will be able to use applications like Adidas Running, Golfbuddy Smart Caddie, Strava, and Swim shortly. Calm and Sleep Cycle are two more wellness applications that are coming to Samsung Watch. For music fans, One UI Watch also includes Spotify and YouTube Music. Although the future of Samsung’s present Tizen interface is unknown, supporters will be pleased to see that the firm is addressing the issue with One UI Watch. Samsung will also release an enhanced watch face design tool, which will make it easier than ever for designers to develop new watch faces. The new Samsung Galaxy Watch is expected to have a better battery, quicker performance, and a larger app selection.
