New Delhi, February 25th, 2025: Gender-based violence does not exist in silos; it is interconnected with social, economic, and institutional barriers that reinforce inequality. Moving towards gender equity requires bridging these barriers and creating inclusive systems that foster equal participation and access to opportunities. Despite various efforts, challenges persist due to deeply rooted structural inequities. According to the latest NCRB data, a woman is raped every sixteen minutes in India, underscoring the urgency of collective action.
To address these concerns, Sakshi is organizing SANDHI, the Global Conference on Gender Equity, a platform for meaningful discussions and collaborative solutions. The conference will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, legal experts, grassroots organizations, and gender rights advocates to explore the intersections of gender justice, digital safety, legal protections, and community-driven interventions.
By bringing together diverse stakeholders and industry experts, SANDHI will facilitate discussions on pressing issues such as technology-facilitated gender-based violence and strategies to tackle gender-based violence in India. The panels will be multidisciplinary, featuring tech experts, lawmakers, public policy officials, on-ground implementing partners, and other key stakeholders, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing gender inequities.
Through expert-led panel discussions, the conference will identify key challenges and highlight practical strategies. SANDHI will also feature theatre performances, leveraging storytelling as a powerful medium to engage audiences and inspire action. These performances will complement discussions by illustrating lived experiences and fostering deeper connections.
A key highlight of SANDHI is the participation of three major government bodies—the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Rural Development, and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. Their collaboration reinforces the importance of institutional involvement in driving gender equity at multiple levels.
By hosting SANDHI, we aim to initiate a multi-sector stakeholder accountability process, fostering collective responsibility and actionable solutions. This conference is not just about dialogue but about finding concrete ways for various sectors to work together to achieve gender equity. The goal is to move beyond discussions and create sustainable frameworks that uphold equity as a lived reality.
