SBI, JCB and NPCI launch ‘SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Card’

State Bank of India (SBI), Japan Credit Bureau (JCB) International Company Limited, and National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) have joined hands for the launch of ‘SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Card’ on the network of RuPay.

The new product will offer a dual interface feature by enabling customers to perform both contact and contactless transaction in their domestic market and contact transactions overseas. Using SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Card customers will be able to perform transactions on both ATMs and PoS (Point of Sales) terminals across the globe with the JCB network. Cardholders can do online shopping from JCB partnered international e-commerce merchants using the contactless debit card. An additional mode of payment is available within the card based on the transactions, that is the contactless debit card supports RuPay offline wallets and cardholders can do payments with it.

Customers can deposit cash with the offline wallet and use it while traveling by bus or metro in India or for carrying out retail payments. Various discounts and offers will be made available to the customers using SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Card in both India as well as international markets while shopping at top brands. Further, customers will have access to in-city exclusive lounges for JCB cardmembers of JCB PLAZA Lounge. This will be available in prominent travel destinations like Bangkok (Thailand), Orchard Road (Singapore), and Paris (France) which is one of the unique features provided by JCB.

Praveena Rai, COO of National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), stated that the customers can now use SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Cards at millions of locations in the world, and using the networks of NPCI RuPay is strengthening its base in international markets. She claims that the offers will give a personalized shopping experience to the customers and improve the existing segment of RuPay cardholders. 

Vidya Krishnan, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India mentioned that the tap and pay technology will make the everyday purchase of the customer easy and simplified by offering secure and fast contactless payments. She believes that the new offer will provide a rewarding shopping experience and will make the international travels of the cardholders worthwhile, by providing them with several offers.
