German component maker, Schaeffler has developed Space Drive which can be utilised in Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) cars and its advantages also explained. The main benefit of the Space Drive system is that it will release a lot of capacity or space on the dashboard and as it trenches the steering wheel. He has put forward an innovative technology that is Space Drive and which is necessary because it’s a steer-by-wire technology that depends on electronics and to one side with the steering wheel.
And in this period, Schaeffler will also collaborate with two groups for the first time, Marco Wittmann will be operating for Walkenhorst Motorsport and Sophia Flörsch will be guiding for Abt Sportsline. Then the developed Space Drive system can free a lot of area on the dashboard as it trenches the steering wheel. The centre of this electronic steer-by-wire system occurs to be an inbuilt computer, also familiar as the Space Drive head module.
The developed space drive is also a testing bed for autonomous driving in future. Usually, the automation used in races or extreme sports is dropped down to road-going cars. If something works in such tiring states, it will surely last on the road. Ultimately the road users seldomly shove their vehicles to their maximum limits. And looking into the Space Drive system, the 2021 DTM season opener will be held in Monza, Italy and will see three German cars with this technology. These will be the Audi R8 LMS GT3 that is driven by Sophia Flörsch (Schaeffler brand ambassador, Gary Paffett’s Mercedes-AMG and Timo Glock’s BMW M6 GT3.
The operator inserts are dispatched to the servo motor and the wheels of the car are revolved, as wanted. The non-appearance of any automatic relation between the input part for steering and the vehicle’s wheels makes this system so special. Then he pointed out that the evolution of new vehicle-interior ideas for travellers’ cars in the future is feasible due to this. And it will help to free up space for extra sensors and other power units that clarify autonomous or remote-controlled vehicle operation. Schaeffler is targeting autonomous driving by 2025 and the Space Drive will aid to attain this hugely if the tech is embraced in road-going cars.
