Scooter, Mobike demand increases 70% during the lockdown

The post lockdown period triggers the preference for personal mobility over public transportation. Manufacturing Industries are closed from March, because of a decline in economic activity as a result of lock-down. Almost 90% of the manufacturing Industries are closed. At the same time, the behavior pattern of consumers is also changed. According to the Analyst finding three fourth of the country’s two-wheeler makers specifically the top three two-wheeler manufacturers Hero motors, Bajaj Auto and TVS motor are extending suppliers to ensure to get their normal output ranging from 60-70%. In June the total production increased to 7.5 lakh to 1 million range. This shows operational efficiency in its production activity and supply chain network.

Rakesh Sharma MD Bajaj Automobiles said that now the demand is normalizing at a faster rate than what they expected. They anticipate a demand back to the normal output of 80-90% in the first week of June. Still, many components suppressed the current sales drive. Hero Motocorp, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer of the country reached its retail sale close to 70-80% after March. Niranjan Gupta CEO of Hero Motor Corporation said that post-lock down resulted in a sudden change in the customer behavior pattern. At the same time, the retail demand is boosted the current demand the trend is also positive. After March, about 90% of the retail outlets have opened across the country.

All three plants of Bajaj Auto are functioning and they are prepared to meet the expected level of demand. They have outlets across the country and almost all the sectors are in a phase of production. TVS Motor Company declined to comment. Industry experts mentioned that pick up in June over May is encouraging. On a small base, the pickup will look bigger on numbers. After the lockdown as the experience of several countries, most of the people are depending upon personal transport over public transport. Nowadays consumer’s buying behavior of bicycles is increasing day by day and people are queuing for hours to buy bicycles and stocks are running out. Nikunj Sanghi one of the largest Hero Motocorp dealers said that the demand for two-wheelers will probably be the first to return to normalcy.
