Shark Tank India spotlight: Deepak Sharma’s Be U Natural Salon chain strikes a chord with viewers
‘Be U Natural’ salon chain, which was recently featured on Shark Tank India, has opened their doors to customers in Panchkula Sector 20 in Haryana. The most loved salon chain has formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to open 25 salons in next 24 months, covering Panchkula, Mohali and Chandigarh along entire Punjab.
With this, the coveted salon brand will now offer their economical services in Punjab and Haryana.
Delhi-based entrepreneur Deepak Sharma, who began his career as a restaurant waiter, and now owns a chain of salons across North India, has won the hearts of thousands after being featured in the latest season of Shark Tank India.
Deepak Sharma’s ‘Be U Natural’ salon chain was recently featured on Shark Tank India, a business reality TV show, and his story has since gone viral. Starting his career as a waiter, Deepak Sharma eventually rose to the position of Training Head at a 5-star hotel before venturing into the salon business. He now owns multiple salons in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Faizabad.
What should be the ideal price for a simple haircut? Do salon owners offer you the best treatment solution according to your requirements, or are they focused only on selling their service package? Why is Keratin treatment so costly when the cost of the product for a single use isn’t that much? Are frills like coffee adding thousands to your salon bill? Deepak answered these questions—in plain Hindi—to the amazement of the Sharks and thereby the audience.
In his pitch, Deepak Sharma emphasized his salon, Be U Naturals’, focus on affordability, making high-quality salon experiences more attainable for a broader customer base. He highlighted the business goals and aspirations. One of the biggest takeaways from the pitch was Deepak Sharma’s perspective on employee retention and attrition. He explained that to address the issue, they hire individuals from the lower middle-class families who are then provided with proper training to support themselves and their families. “This way, our love and support in their training help their families. Hence, they don’t leave us,” Deepak said. While Shark Vineeta Singh, co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics, wasn’t overly impressed, Deepinder Goyal, co-founder of Zomato, expressed his confidence, stating, “I believe in you. People do stay for love.”
The ‘Be U Natural’ founder also spoke about a succession plan and how he trains people to be leaders. He mentioned his aim to become the second-largest self-owned salon chain in India very soon and to expand to other cities.
The ‘Be U Natural’ founder entered the tank seeking an investment of Rs 60 lakh in exchange for 2.5% equity in his company. While a direct deal was not reached, Deepak said that the experience has been enriching. “I am a small businessman. Being featured on Shark Tank India and then receiving all the love from the people—reading the comments on YouTube, Instagram, Reddit—I can’t thank you all enough. I hope to live up to the expectations,” Sharma said.
Interestingly, a Reddit thread is calling for Deepak to join the show as a Shark! The thread discusses how Deepak showed maturity and knowledge in his field as an entrepreneur.
Be U Natural’s appearance on Shark Tank India promises to be an interesting one. With the growing popularity of unisex salons and the increasing demand for affordable self-care options, the brand showcases the potential to resonate with viewers. The episode offers valuable insights into the Indian beauty and wellness market and the challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs in this space.
