Hyderabad, 19th September: The National Education Policy of 2020 introduced by the government has tried to reimagine the way we approach teaching-learning processes. It aims to transform education as per the modern standards. One of the key areas that NEP 2020 focuses on is ‘Art Integration’ for learning core subjects like mathematics, physics, history, among others.
SILICA Institute has been a leading player for preparing students of XI & XII standard for careers and entrance exams in the field of design, architecture and art for the past two decades. With the introduction of NEP 2020, SILICA Institute has launched the “SILICA Junior” program, which focuses on developing basic Art Skills in VII to X standard students and introduces them to learning core subjects like mathematics, science, history, geography, languages etc through Art Integrated activities.
“Our education system has so far operated in a fashion which is fast becoming obsolete. All the subjects are taught in isolation which very less real-world practical approach. For a majority of the students subjects like mathematics and physics are extremely difficult to grasp. Art integration breaks that barrier and allows the students to explore these subjects creatively. This is what makes SILICA Junior art integration program a holistic approach in education,” said Mr. Chiranjeet Rege, Director, SILICA.
The curriculum becomes much easier to grasp for students when it is delivered through an Art Integrated Learning model. Art integration in education is crucial as it helps the students to use creative problem-solving skills and can help students apply the same their respective fields. Students who participate in art integrated classes are known to demonstrate longer retention and articulate deeper meaning in the concepts taught in the classroom.
“’Art Integration can be a game changer and will lead to transformative progress in how we educate our children. Since it is now a part of NEP 2020, we can expect that schools and other institutions now to adopt the practice in their curriculum moving forward. Traditional teaching methods will slowly be taken over by Art Integration in education, which is a leap of growth as students get to create their own experience with their respective subjects and have a different approach to dealing with any topic with imagination and creativity,” Rege added.
Through creative exploration, the students will be able to learn at their own pace in an age-appropriate manner. Children who participate in art integrated classes are known to demonstrate longer retention and articulate deeper meaning in the concepts taught in the classroom. It also encourages the child to apply inquiry and investigation which is rooted in artistic exploration. This develop critical thinking among the students while helping them in understanding the topics in depth.
SILICA Institute has been preparing students for design courses and it has a long experience in this area. The institute bridges the gap between the design schools and the industry, helping the learners to develop necessary skills and get appropriate design education. SILICA has been working towards imagining design as an approach of solving real-life problems.
