Nov 19, 2012: There is a sharp decline in the number of SMSes send by Americans as more and more people in US have started using more of services like iMessage, Whatsapp and BBM. This shows that customers are looking at cheaper ways to communicate. The drop observed was upto 3 % in a month that averages to 678 texts. These modes of sending messages are 20% cheaper than what is charged for SMS by major US telecom operators. Another reason being cited for this sharp decline is the use of various other social networks like Twitter, Facebook etc. by people.
