Snapdeal the e-commerce firm on September 15 has successfully conducted the last-mile delivery of the products with the help of the robot in partnership with autonomous mobility startup Ottonomy IO for experimenting it across the locations of Delhi NCR.
The robot which was developed by Ottonomy can run along sidewalks and even in the local streets autonomously for delivering orders to the nearby home. It is done with the help of an AI algorithm for navigating through the crowded areas and cameras are to used to have a robust understanding of the external world. These robots are programmed with the layout of the different delivery areas hence can navigate for reaching the customers. And if the delivery is done at the doorstep the customer will get an alert of it.
Also with the help of a unique QR code that is given to the user the holding area of the robot can be blocked and the customer can retrieve their order. These delivery robots can carry multiple orders at a time and the QR code helps the customer to only unlock the specific package hold the area which contains the order placed by the customer.
Moreover, these robots are developed with ultraviolet lighting to disinfect the package while they are navigating to the specified delivery locations by keeping in mind the virus threat. The company also said that they are heavily investing in artificial intelligence and machine learning for developing future-oriented capabilities, also delivery robots are the part of the evolving future of the logistics and they are very excited to partner with Ottonomy IO for testing these technologies. They believe that these delivery robots have a unique role in the eCommerce delivery mostly in the larger townships, also in institutional campuses and other residential environments. These contactless deliveries with the help of the robots are the step towards building a safer and convenient future, especially for shoppers.
This development which came from Snapdeal is the same time Zomato, Swiggy, and Dunzo are experimenting with drone deliveries. Early in June, the director-general of civil aviation has given the official permission to these delivery companies like Zomato, Swiggy, dunzo for beginning the test beyond the visual line of sight for the drone deliveries.
