The Firefox based smartphones were much anticipated to be launched inIndiaas they provide a slew of adaptive features and applications. Now, S Mobility has taken the lead by launching the country’s first such low cost smartphone based on the Firefox platform. The handset dubbed Spice Fire One Mi-FX 1 is priced competitively at Rs 2,299 and it will be available for sale from August 29.
Spice has claimed that the Fire One is targeted towards those feature phone users who are planning to upgrade to a smarphone without burning a hole in their pockets. Detailing in terms of specifications, the Spice Fire One employs a GHz processor, presumably a single-core one under its hood. The handset boasts of a 3.5 inch display with a HVGA screen resolution of 320×480 pixels.
To meet the imaging requirements of the users, the Spice Fire One smartphone uses a 2 MP primary camera that is accompanied with a 1.3 MP front-facing selfie camera. Other goodies onboard are connectivity aspects such as 2G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Being targeted at the masses, the Firefox OS based Spice handset comes with dual SIM functionality as well. As of now, Spice has not revealed information regarding the other features such as inclusion of an expandable micro SD card slot, RAM, battery and default storage capacities.
The Firefox OS is based on HTML5 and it will have aspects such as Adaptive App Search or Single Window Search and will be pre-installed with applications like Twitter, Facebook and others. With the Firefox marketplace, users can download additional applications as well. Furthermore, the platform supports multiple regional languages including Tamil, Hindi and Bangla.
As mentioned above, the Sprice Fire One Mi-FX1 priced at Rs 2,299 will go on sale from August 29 exclusively via Snapdeal. Soon, the device will be made available through the Spice HotSpot stores, Saholic and other retail outlets as well. Accompanying the Spice Firefox OS based smartphone, another native vendor Intex will also be launching the Cloud FX smartphone priced around Rs 2,000 on August 25.
