According to recent numbers issued by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), 537 million persons worldwide currently have diabetes, up 16 per cent (74 million) over prior IDF predictions in 2019.

India has the world’s second-highest number of diabetic patients, behind only China (141 million). In India, additional 40 million persons suffer from Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT), putting them at high risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes.

The normal ageing process is aggravated by oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, which accelerates biological ageing in middle-aged Indians. In India, more than half of patients with diabetes are undiagnosed.

From an early age, children with sub-optimal womb growth carry a high amount of risk factors for diabetes, including high circulating glucose levels. Even when assessed at ages 6 and 12, the tendency toward elevated glucose was evident.

Diabetes can lead to serious and life-threatening consequences such as heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, and lower-limb amputation if it is not recognised or treated correctly. These factors lead to a lower quality of life and higher healthcare costs, as well as a greater demand for care.

Diabetes has been linked to an increased risk of cardiac arrest in studies, and there have been big improvements in new instances of diabetes during the Covid-19 epidemic for a variety of causes.

Diabetes has now become a major public health concern, as a huge number of individuals are already infected with the coronavirus. As a consequence, diabetic people who are infected with Covid-19 may experience serious health problems.

For World Diabetes Day, Sugarfit, a health-tech platform has launched a campaign called “#WeCan.”  that aims to prevent, treat, and cure diabetes. The campaign emphasises that diabetes reversal is achievable and that there are tools and platforms available, such as Sugarfit, that have proven techniques for doing so.

Sugarfit aims to assist people in taking the initial, life-changing step in the fight against Prediabetes or Type-2 diabetes. Because they believe they can’t achieve what those without diabetes can, many people are misinformed about their diseases and live unfulfilled lives.

The campaign includes an emotional video narrated by Farhan Akhtar that conveys the notion that diabetes does not have to stand in the way of accomplishing one’s goals. Legends have done it before you, and you can too. It will be bolstered by a lively social media campaign as well as outdoor advertisements.

Sugarfit employs continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), which allows users to see the influence of different foods and lifestyle activities on their blood sugar levels in real-time. Its data-driven, comprehensive strategy can help consumers prevent, manage, and treat diabetes in as little as 6-12 months.

Coaching, tailored analytics, and connected devices and testing are all part of the company’s comprehensive programme, which blends medical professionals with cutting-edge technology.
