Susan E. Arnold becomes the next Chairman of Board of Disney

Susan E. Arnold has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Walt Disney Company, effective December 31, 2021. Arnold is a Disney Board member who has served as the company’s independent Lead Director since 2018. She is going to succeed Robert A. Iger as Chairman of the Board when he leaves at the end of the year.

Bob Iger, Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board, said that Susan is an experienced and respected leader with integrity, excellent judgment. These qualities have proven beneficial for the Company since her first appointment in 2007.

She is an excellent choice for being the Chairman of the Board as she has recently served as an independent Lead Director. He has high expectations that the Company will prosper under her leadership.

Susan thanked Bob Iger for this remarkable leadership over the years. Iger had a great vision for delivering high-quality branded storytelling and embracing cutting-edge technology. He helped to expand the Company internationally. He led Disney to great heights both creatively and financially and he’s left an indelible mark on The Walt Disney Company that will be felt for generations to come.

As she takes on the new role as Chairman of the Board, she looks forward to serving Disney’s shareholders’ long-term interests and working closely with CEO Bob Chapek as he built on the Company’s century-long tradition of creative excellence.

Arnold brings substantial board experience and in-depth expertise in brand management and marketing, environmental sustainability, product and business development, worldwide consumer markets, finance, and executive and risk management to her new post.

She was previously an operating executive with The Carlyle Group, a private equity investment firm, where she worked from 2013 until 2021. She formerly worked for Procter & Gamble as President—Global Business Units from 2007 until 2009. Arnold was formerly Vice-Chair—Beauty & Health at Procter & Gamble, Vice-Chair—Beauty at Procter & Gamble from 2004, and President—Global Personal Beauty Care & Global Feminine Care at Procter & Gamble from 2002. She was on the board of directors of McDonald’s Corporation from 2008 to 2016, as well as NBTY, Inc. from 2013 to 2017.

Iger has been Chairman of the Board since 2012 and Executive Chairman of Disney since 2020. He was responsible for overseeing the company’s creative initiatives. He served as Disney’s Chief Executive Officer from 2005 until 2020.

Iger worked hard to transform Disney into one of the world’s largest and most loved media and entertainment corporations. Iger has made Disney an industry leader with its creative content offerings across many channels, most notably employing cutting-edge direct-to-consumer technology with the launch of the Disney+ service.
