Scooters are widely known for the convenience and practicality that they offer, but there are also reasons preventing some to shy away from scooters such as long legs were in contact with handlebars and second scooters are simply not as much fun as motorcycles. But these changed when Suzuki Burgman street was launched in 2018. For the first time in a while, a scooter was offering an all-around package including good looks, enough legroom, and the sense of riding a big automatic two-wheeler.

Now in the BS6 avatar, the already perfect scooter comes with Bluetooth functionality and commands a premium price of Rs 85000 ex-showroom.

Design

The BS6 iteration remains the same as the previous model. The LED headlights which are proven to be very functional in the dark, the fully- digital instrument cluster now offers Bluetooth connectivity, the visor further adds to the aesthetic appeal and a broad seat aims at providing comfort for long-distance travel. Some of the elements that rob the Burgman of its aesthetics are its puny rear section tire and an outside fuel filler cap would have further added to the functionality of the scooter.

Features

The Burgman’s revised LCD instrument cluster now comes with a white backlight, engine temperature, dual trip meters, eco riding indicator, and the most important of all turn-by-turn navigation. Bluetooth-enabled instrument console can be easily connected to a smartphone which can be used to generate trip reports, calls/messages, WhatsApp alerts, SoS feature, and more. Now the engine starter switch integrates the engine kill switch. The scooter has ample storage space with a huge 21.5-liter boot space and two cubby holes in the front.

Engine

Powering the Burgman is a 124cc mill that churns out 8.4hp/10nm, compared to the BS4 model torque has gone down by 0.2nm. Generally, the transition to BS6 makes scooter engines more refined and it’s the same with the Burgman, however, one can notice handlebar and mirrors vibrating on starting. The BS6 iteration lacks the raw appeal and the punch on acceleration offered in the BS4 powertrain.

Mileage and Top speed

The Burgman returns a respectable 44 Kmpl and 51.4Kmpl in the city and on the highway respectively. The scooter attained a top speedometer indicated speed of 95Kmph without any vibrations.

Ride and handling

Unlike the BS4 the BS6 model handlebar can come in contact with the knee on turn’s depending on the rider’s height, though Suzuki is yet to confirm any ergo changes the change was apparent when both the models were ridden back-to-back. The seat offers a comfortable ride for both the pillion and the rider. While the scooter may seem bulky it weighs a mere 110Kg adding to its maneuverability in traffic. The suspension is towards the stiffer side without the pillion. The braking duties are handled by a disk at the front and drum at the rear, adding to the safety is CBS.

Burgman is an expensive 125cc scooter but with reliability combined with the features on offer and the distinctive looks will surely appeal to a wide audience looking for a different experience.
