Suzuki Ignis launched in Japan, to feature in Auto Expo

In Japan, Suzuki launched the Ignis that starts at 1.382 million Yen (approx. Rs 8 lakhs). Suzuki has confirmed the features and specifications that will be a part of the compact crossover model.

Talking of the form factor, the Ignis measures 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm wide, and 1,595 mm tall. The vehicle has a wheelbase of 2,435 mm and a ground clearance of 180 mm. The Ignis has been launched in three variants such as MG, MX and MZ. These variants are further classified into standard 2WD and optional AWD variants. The MZ 2WD is the top end model of the Suzuki Ignis that weighs in at 880 kg. The AWD model of this variant is heavier weighing 920 kg.

All the variants of the Ignis are powered by four cylinder engine K12C DualJet engine that is of 1,242 cc with VVT mild hybrid technology. The engine renders a torque of 119 Nm and power of 91 PS. The DC synchronous motor adds to these by rendering 50 Nm torque and 3.1 PS power.

The fuel tank has a capacity to house 32 liters of fuel and the vehicle’s 2WD variant is estimated to provide a mileage of 28 km per liter. The 4WD version can give a mileage of 25.4 km per liter under the JC08 driving cycle. The CVT is the gearbox option, and paddle shifters are also included in the Ignis.

There are safety features such as side and curtain airbags, dual front, EBD, ABS, ESP, lane departure warning, Hill Descent control, Hill Hold, automatic headlights along with automatic leveling, and LED foglights and headlights. The other features onboard the Ignis are Bluetooth enabled music system, keyless entry along with engine starter button, climate control, heated front seats, cruise control, UV and IR cut glass, regenerative breaking, 16 inch aluminum wheels and 175/60 tyres.

It is confirmed that the Ignis will have a Indian premiere at the Auto Expo 2016 starting on February 3. The launch is reported to take place during the festive season. It could be sold via the NEXA outlets of Maruti.
