At the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki has unveiled a compact crossover called Ignis that is bound only to India. The Ignis is based on the iM-4 concept that was revealed during the Geneva Motor Show this year. This vehicle marks the entry of Suzuki into the compact crossover segment, stated that automobile manufacturer.
The Japanese auto manufacturer, Suzuki is yet to announce the comprehensive technical specifications of the compact crossover model. Based on the previous reports, the Ignis is likely to carry dimensions of 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width and 1,595 mm in height. These dimensions show that the Ignis is marginally longer than the newly launched Renault Kwid.
On the mechanical front, the Suzuki Ignis is reported to arrive with a 1.2 liter DualJet petrol engine. This petrol engine is said to be teamed up with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology. Also, a CVT gearbox is to be paired with the engine.
The Ignis will arrive with a regular front wheel drive layout along with optional 4WD. As per Suzuki, the compact crossover will render sufficient ground clearance. It is clamed to provide versatility for the everyday life and leisure with its sufficient ground clearance, high view point and ability to go on the snowy roads as well as rough tracks.
Suzuki’s Indian manufacturing partner Maruti will be launching the Ignis in India. Besides the Ignis, the India specific Baleno is also being showcased at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show.
As per the industry sources, it is likely that the leading India based auto manufacturer, Maruti is in plans to launch the Ignis some time in the near future. However, it is skeptical to expect a launch to happen in the next year. We can expect an India launch at the 2016 Auto Expo, but nothing is certain until Maruti reveals an official word regarding the same.
