20th April 2022: Swiggy, the largest restaurant discovery, food, and grocery delivery service, has decided to update its executives’ attire. Why? “Our delivery executives are our company’s face, and they interact with customers on a daily basis.” According to the brand’s blog post, “smart and comfortable clothing is critical in setting kids up for success.” Swiggy enlisted the help of designer Vikram Rathore to create new uniforms for its delivery staff.

The new long-sleeve orange T-shirt is composed of dry-fit mesh fabric, which allows for complete breathability in all weather. The long sleeves protect the skin from the harsh sun and chilly evenings, while the orange color provides extra comfort in the summer. Reflectors are strategically positioned on the T-shirt for the safety of delivery partners, especially when visibility is limited.

“The majority of delivery executives desired a T-shirt that looked fashionable and professional while also protecting them from the weather… “We needed to design clothing that was not only comfortable but also smart and safe to wear,” Rathore explained.

The new clothing for its delivery partners, on the other hand, has not been well accepted. “The new gear is generating unwarranted attention from the public, as delivery partners confront all types of criticism,” Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union founder state president Shaik Salauddin said when approached. Swiggy should have remembered that the color orange (saffron) is associated with politics. The delivery partners in Hyderabad have been in a lot of mental pain as a result of this.”

Swiggy should ensure that their delivery workers are not affected by the Ganga-Jamuna culture in India, according to Shaik Salauddin. ‘Swiggy bhi Jai Shri Ram bolne laga,’ said delivery workers that they faced such comments from the public  (Swiggy is also now saying Jai Shree Ram).

Shaik Salauddin suggests that Swiggy customize its delivery workers’ uniforms to reflect the company’s inclusiveness and that the current clothes be redesigned to reflect the camaraderie of Hyderabad and India.
