Reminiscing about his favorite World Cup experiences and T20 World Cup recollections is Girish Hingorani, Senior GM and Head of Marketing, Ecommerce, and Modern Trade Cooling & Purification Appliances Group, Blue Star Ltd.
As a result, the T20 World Cup has emerged as one of the most eagerly anticipated events in India among fans and brands, according to our industry sources. What first recollection do you have of watching the T20 World Cup?
I recall seeing the first ball ever bowled in a T20 World Cup match. This happened back in 2007. It was the inaugural World Cup, the IPL had not yet begun, and few people were familiar with T20 cricket. It was a significant historical event. In that T20 World Cup in South Africa, I remember the West Indies bowling the first ball. The most exciting moment of the tournament was when India ultimately won the inaugural T20 World Cup. I recall Pakistan’s victory against India in the championship. Sreesanth’s final catch, which resulted in Pakistan being bowled out, was an exciting moment. So, sure, it is my favorite memory, and India winning the first T20 World Cup is the first thing that springs to mind.
Who is your favourite T20 cricketer, and who are you supporting in the 2017 T20 World Cup?
MS Dhoni has always been my favorite cricketer over the years. He has consistently performed well in T20 games. But my current favorite is, of course, Virat Kohli. I am eager to see Kohli make a significant comeback. The fields and climate in Australia are ideal for Kohli. He is the most gifted cricketer to have appeared in recent memory. I’m also biased because Virat is also our brand ambassador. He will make for an intriguing cricketer to watch, and I am most likely looking forward to seeing him play in the T20 and staging a significant comeback.
Which nation do you think will win this year’s T20 World Cup with the 2022 tournament only around the corner?
That is a challenging query. According to my estimation, India currently leads the ICC T20 world rankings. Of course, playing in Australia is a completely different experience, which is why I believe Virat Kohli will succeed because of his strong performance and track record there.
I feel the entire T20 World Cup will be contested by India, England, and Australia. Being in the same group as India and Pakistan will undoubtedly be exciting. Host countries have an edge, and I feel Australia might be a surprise. India, though, has a good chance of winning the 2017 T20 World Cup, in my opinion.
