The students of The Academy School (TAS), Pune, conducted a Student Led conference (SLC) wherein they prepared their portfolios and presented their yearly achievements to parents and teachers. The activity, conducted by students from Grade VI to Grade X and initiated by TAS, is aimed at building communication and leadership skills among students at an early age.
Dr. Maithili Tambe, CEO of TAS, who spearheaded the initiative, said the activity helps students gain essential life skills that will help them in their day-to-day lives in future. “The activity also requires teamwork which also gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility. SLC helps in providing deeper insights into students’ development to their parents and teachers,” she said.
Through the initiative, students could apply their learning to something that will be a real-world experience when they gain employment. “Education is not just what they are doing right now but also what they will be doing in their lives after school and college. Learning is a process and it is always better to remain a step ahead,” Tambe said.
Students also did projects based on science such as on human anatomy and human physiology, gained History lessons on the impact of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Samrat Ashoka, and Gautam Buddha among others, studied electro-static and thermal energy. They also played musical instruments, did meditation and danced. Also, they learned household works such as folding clothes and showcased it to their parents and teachers.
Besides SLC, TAS has other learning phases as well for students including student-teacher time (STT) to increase synergy between them, Independent Country, Independent Me (ICIM) to inculcate independence among students, out-of-the-box initiatives to hone their creativity, STEM education to master more than one aspect through overlapping subjects, NEP station to enhance critical thinking, and art corner to provide self-expression in students. All the initiatives help students in their holistic development and build their cognitive abilities.
“TAS prioritizes holistic development in education, fostering a child’s physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, and creative growth. We believe a well-rounded personality is essential for a child to shape the world’s future. We cultivate and encourage these aspects, ensuring every child emerges as a confident, creative, and compassionate global citizen,” Tambe said.
