Tata Consultancy Services, leading global IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization and Yale University have jointly announced the launch of a new framework that could help ensure privacy and trust in peer-to-peer digital networks. To address this challenge, Yale University and TCS have worked together to create a new architecture, making use of the decentralized storage provided by Hyperledger Fabric and the IPFS peer-to-peer network, as well as the decentralized identities supported by Hyperledger Aries and Indy. It also provides the ability to share data and services through a fully decentralized digital ecosystem that allows users to control data. TCS has developed an identity component, while Yale researchers have built a core service and integrated software components.

Existing technologies have forced users to choose between trust and maintaining control over their own data, said Professor Leandros Tassiulas at Yale University. We believe that decentralized identity is a compelling case for blockchain technology, and identity platforms and related solutions are already part of our platform and solution strategy, said Lakshminarasimhan Srinivasan, Global Head, Blockchain Services, TCS. We are pleased to be working with Yale University to prove that the use of decentralized technologies can improve the security of community networks while at the same time preserving individual privacy. This collaborative project was supported by an ongoing alliance between Tata Group, TCS, and Yale University.

This work is another example of a fruitful, efficient, mutually beneficial partnership between Yale, Tata Group, and TCS as a result of a strong alliance formed in 2016, said Yale Professor Nicholas Christakis, Co-Chair of the Tata-Yale Alliance.
