The Tata Tiago has been seeing many delays, but the launch of the vehicle is nearing. The vehicle is expected to be launched on March 28 and Tata has announced the opening of the bookings for the small car that is latest on its portfolio. In fact, the Tiago is the latest small car after the Nano from the manufacturer.

The design and technical team at Tata started working on this project towards the end of the year 2012. The UK facility of Tata was the primary design center of the Tiago, but the Indian and Italian studios were also involved equally.

The JLR derived processes were implemented for the styling of the vehicle, and one of these is Customer Designed Reference Model (CDRM) that is a clay model of the vehicle that was shown to the target audience and dealers.

The Tiago measures 3,746 mm long, 1,647 mm wide, 1,535 mm tall and 2,400 mm in wheelbase. The dimensions are comparable to Maruti Celerio as it is the closest rival that is 150 kg more.

The Tiago might be similar to the latest Ford Figo, especially post the B-Pillar. The design details appear set it apart the other hatchbacks in this segment. The front fascia seems to have bug eyed headlights with honeycomb structures on the piano black grille. The layout is carried to the plastic housing the wipers.

The side look is chic with a European stance and the gaps and finishes or panel gaps are the best so far that is not seen in any other Tata offering. The rear of the Tiago has Boomerang shaped taillights. Also, there is a spoiler with black accents on both sides. On the exterior, there seems to be nothing that is unnecessary.

The interior appears to be similar to Zest and Bolt. There is a multifunction steering wheel, a piano black center console, an instrument cluster with MID, a well-integrated Harman entertainment system and buttons to switch between the driving modes. There seems to be not much legroom in the vehicle.

There are electrically adjustable wing mirrors, foglights, 14 inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, steering mounted controls, rear wiper and washer, manual AC, rear parking sensors, and multi-drive mode. Also, there are ABS, dual front airbags and EBD in the top end model of the Tata Tiago.

The engine is quite new in the Tata family. The petrol variant of the vehicle uses a 1.2 liter three cylinder engine that can deliver 114 Nm torque and 85 PS power. The diesel variant has a 1.05 liter engine that can render 140 Nm torque and 70 PS power. In both the variants, the gear action and clutch are positive and up to the expectation from a small city car. The petrol model can render a mileage of 12 kmpl and diesel variant can give 14 kmpl.
