Students of The Academy School (TAS), Pune, celebrated the joy of learning in all languages especially Hindi which is the Rajbhasha of our country. This also brought focus onto the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which advocates “wherever possible, the medium of instruction until at least Grade 5, but preferably till Grade 8 and beyond, will be the home language/mother tongue/local language/regional language” for both public and private schools.

Spearheaded by Dr Maithili Tambe, CEO, TAS, the school celebrated ‘Hindi Saptah’ or Hindi Week, which included a variety of activities such as poetry recitation, story recitation, story writing, speech and debate competitions. This Hindi Diwas was dedicated to encouraging the joy and emotions that the speaking of  Hindi evokes in learners.

Dr. Maithili shared that “TAS has clubbed Finland pedagogy in ICSE curriculum. It has also adopted the NEP model, thus integrating with the Finland model. Now, through these various activities, we also look forward to integrating teaching in other languages as well and gauge how students understand the concepts in local languages, which forms the base of NEP,” said Dr. Maithili Tambe.

Speaking about the events, Anjali Arya, the Hindi teacher at TAS, said, ” The goal is to make the students understand anything in the language they are most comfortable with and come across more often than not, at least in the foundational formative years of their schooling. As a result, on Hindi Diwas, we also thought of giving an overview of the NEP.”
