On-demand cloud services are a huge market that many of the large technology companies including amazon, google, and Microsoft is in on. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is one of the largest among them. AWS started in and has grown to be an industry producing over 30 billion dollars in revenue and accounts for 12% of Amazon’s Revenue. Separately, BMW is a German car manufacturer founded in 1916 and employing over 133000 people.

AWS has just announced that it will be partnering up with BMW to accelerate the automaker’s innovation by providing critical data and analytics for its data centers. The industry leaders intend to join hands and develop cloud-enabled solutions that increase efficiency, performance, and sustainability across every aspect of the automotive life cycle, from vehicle design to after-sales services. According to the partnership deal, the BMW Group will migrate data from all its business units and operations spanning over a hundred countries to AWS. The partnership aims to use a number of the BMW Group’s core IT systems and databases for functions such as sales, manufacturing, and maintenance and will help them increase responsiveness, gain new insights, and more quickly innovate new customer experiences and products.

BMW also plans to provide training for over 5000 employees in its software design and development center in AWS’s latest technologies. The BMW Group is also working on stretching the company-wide data lake built on Amazon Simple Storage Service, called the “Cloud Data Hub”. This is done so that that it can leverage data to deliver innovation across its global businesses. Third-party partners such as car dealerships, retailers, and technology firms will also be able to supply the Cloud Data Center with the vehicle running and maintenance information and will also be able to benefit from machine learning insights. AWS and the BMW Group will also be collaborating on creating innovative products and solutions to improve operational performance and increase transparency within the supply chain.

Companies will update and enable employees of the BMW Group to better apply data and analytics to their positions and take full advantage of the new cloud technology. Together with BMW Group personnel, AWS Technical Services and data scientists from the BMW Group will collaborate to recognize market issues, analyze emerging technology, and create innovative cloud-enabled solutions for the automotive industry.
