Xiaomi’s four-legged Cyberdog robot arrived in India after first appearing in China in 2021. It arrives in India to commemorate Xiaomi India’s eighth anniversary.
Xiaomi, which is celebrating eight years in the Indian market, showcased the Quadruped Robot Companion dubbed Cyber Dog for select media persons in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi on Monday (July 4). The CyberDog is agile and can easily adapt to complex terrain.
Cyber Dog is outfitted with 11 high-precision sensors that provide instant feedback to guide its movements and can be helpful in assisted living for the elderly, as well as a good home security solution with the camera sensors. It includes a variety of camera sensors, including AI interactive cameras, binocular ultra-wide-angle fisheye cameras, and an Intel RealSense D450 Depth module, and it can be trained using its computer vision algorithm. The vision sensor system used by Cyber Dog includes autonomous object tracking, SLAM, and centimeter-scale obstacle avoidance and navigation. The CyberDog is capable of analyzing its surroundings in real-time, creating navigational maps, plotting its destination, and avoiding obstacles.
Through three USB Type-C and an HDMI port, developers can explore and integrate a wide range of innovative and creative hardware add-ons or software systems, such as a searchlight, panoramic camera, motion camera, LiDAR, and more. Xiaomi reconstructs and optimizes in-house developed core modules for CyberDog, which is built on open-source algorithms. The company has established the ‘Xiaomi Open-Source Community’ to share progress and results with developers worldwide. It also intends to establish a robotics laboratory to serve as a platform for engineers to pursue future innovations.
At first glance, the “Bio-inspired Quadruped Robot” resembles one of Hyundai-owned Boston Dynamics’ four-legged robots. According to a Xiaomi event page, the Cyberdog’s high-performance servo motor and motion control algorithm allows it to adapt to a variety of complex terrains. It can walk at a maximum speed of 3.2m/s. This cyber doggo is also a good boy because it is always on the lookout for your voice and smartphone commands. It also has sensors and cameras to help it perceive its speed and location. While there is no information on its sale, reports indicate that it could fetch more than a lakh rupees.
