The production of 1.5 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccine in less than a year is a remarkable feat, according to FICCI’s Sanjiv Mehta.
FICCI ensures that the county’s communal and collaborative spirit in fighting the epidemic will continue as it celebrates the historic milestone of vaccination citizens with 1.5 billion doses.
“The Landmark of giving 150 crore vaccines in less than a year is a huge achievement in our fight against COVID-19,” FICCI President Sanjiv Mehta said. As the Hon’ble Prime Minister stated, this was only possible because of the combined efforts of our healthcare personnel, vaccine makers, and everyone else involved in the healthcare industry. Our fight against the virus is on track, thanks to the recent expansion of the vaccine push, and the industry is committed to supporting the government in this effort.”

On January 16, 2021, India began a nationwide immunization campaign, with the initial phase focusing on healthcare and frontline workers. The second phase, which began on April 1, covered persons over 60 years old and those aged 45 and above with specific comorbid diseases, while the third phase, which began on April 1, covered everyone over 45 years old.
On October 21, last year, India passed the 1 billion anti-Covid vaccines shot mark, thanks to the government’s recent expansion of immunization drives for 15-18-year-olds beginning January 3rd, 2022, and booster doses for healthcare and frontline workers beginning January 10th.
Since the pandemic began early last year, the country has achieved several significant milestones. Starting with proactive readiness for test-track-treat, an increase in technology-enabled care through the implementation of Telemedicine Guidelines and the recent launch of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission, as well as ongoing efforts to improve our human resources and healthcare infrastructure.
Apart from the various strategic recommendations on tackling the COVID pandemic, FICCI has served as a bridge between the government and the industry through various collaborations at the national, state, and local levels, whether it was for mobility or logistics, technology transfer, or tie-ups to expand manufacturing capacities.
