The mobile industry is increasingly turning its focus to compact devices. The launch of the compact flagship and mid-range flagship smartphones, such as the iPhone SE 2020, Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, Pixel 4a, and iPhone 12 Mini, clearly indicates that the top players are interested. Another big player and an avid advocate of compact devices are aiming to start 2021 with a compact smartphone. Japan’s tech giant is about to revive its compact mobile range. Several compact smartphones were introduced by the smartphone manufacturer in the past, namely Xperia XZ1 (5.2 inches) (2017), Sony Xperia XA2 (5.2 inches) (2017), and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (5.0 inches) (2018).
The Sony Xperia Compact 2021 is supposed to have a 5.45-inch AMOLED panel. The scale of the unit is as follows: 5.5 x 2.71 x 0.35 inches. This smartphone could be a little larger than the iPhone 12 Mini, which measures 5.18 x 2.53 x 0.29 inches. A boxy system with rounded corners and a dewdrop notch. On the left, the device can be seen holding a dedicated camera button and a capacitive fingerprint reader built into the power button. A 3.5mm jack and a small microphone opening can be seen at the top of the unit.
Sony’s Xperia lineup is always trying to offer the latest of optics. Also, the fact that it makes camera lenses and sensors helps its engineers to play around the camera with the camera. The Xperia 1 II was introduced shortly before the Xperia 5 II was a sensor-focused system with an exclusive collection of features and dedicated software to unleash the full power of the camera. As far as optics are concerned, the Sony Xperia Compact 2021 is supposed to feature a dual-camera configuration consisting of a 13MP main sensor. This setup is housed in an angular pill-shaped mechanism, while the 8MP front shooter is housed in a dewdrop notch. We can see support for 4K 60/30fps video recording on this device.
The Sony Xperia Compact 2021 is suspected to be a mid-range product. Looking at the brand’s mobile pricing record, the device is expected to be pricey. But maybe Sony’s trying to get around price cutting down a few corners here and there. In this situation, it is aiming to compete with the likes of OnePlus Nord, S20 FE, Pixel 4a, and the iPhone SE 2020. As of now, the system could be somewhere around 35,999.
