The deadline for executing New Tariff Order (NTO) 2 has been expanded by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to June 1, 2022. The proceeding time limit had been April 2022.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is a regulatory body established by the Government of India under section 3 of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997.
It is the regulator of the telecommunications sector in India. It comprises of a chairperson and not more than two full-time members and not more than two part-time members. The TRAI Act was revised by an ordinance and was successful from 24 January 2000. Establishing a Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) to acquire the adjudicatory and discussion roles from TRAI.
In a letter to broadcasters and dispensation platform providers, the TRAI stated, “With effect from June 1, 2022, all distributors of television channels should be assured that services to subscribers are given as per the bouquets or channels chosen by subscribers”
Due to the COVID conditions, the regulator has gotten various requests from stakeholders asking for an expansion of the time limit for applying the New Regulatory Framework 2020. Most of their team was affected by Covid-19, and many were can’t able to attend work owing to state government conditions.
According to stakeholders. Furthermore, their employees affiliated local cable operators are having difficulty reaching COVID-affected subscribers areas for collection of choices, etc.
“In behalf of the present pandemic situation around the country and requests received from stakeholders for an expansion of time for the accomplishment of the New Regulatory Framework 2020,” the TRAI stated.
Broadcasters must notice any change in name, nature, language, monthly Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of channels, bouquet composition, and MRP of bouquets of channels to the authorities by February 28, 2022, and coincidently shows such information on their websites. Broadcasters that have previously filed RIOs by the New Regulatory Framework have till February 28, 2022, to revise them.
The regulatory body also organized all DPOs to report the Distributor Retail Price (DRP) of pay channels, the composition of pay channel bouquets free-to-air channels, and the DRP of bouquets of pay channels to the authority by March 31, 2022, and to issue this information on their websites at the same time.
DPOs who have formerly filed RIOs by the New Regulatory Framework have until March 31, 2022, to modify them.
