Women entrepreneurs are ruling the roost for a while now. There is hardly any sector where women are not excelling and leading the pack. They are setting an example of exemplary work coupled with entrepreneurial expertise. They signify independence, they signify intelligence, they signify India!

This Women’s Day, let us have a look at five women entrepreneurs who are slowly and steadily changing society in their respective fields.

Aditi Gupta, Menstrupedia

Born in a small town called Gharwa in Jharkhand, Aditi Gupta lived with orthodox parents. Mention of menstruation was a taboo in the area, let alone talking about it. She direly wanted to change this mindset by providing correct knowledge about a natural phenomenon and an all-important topic such as this. She ventured on to become an author and is the co-founder of the famous comic Menstrupedia.

Maithili Tambe, The Academy School

A Bachelor in Dental Surgery from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Dr. Tambe is now CEO of The Academy School, an unconventional and affordable school chain, and has set off on a path to transform the education sector for the better. The school, run by a not-for-profit organisation, focuses on the overall development of the student and gets away with the rote culture that runs amok in the current education system. She is committed to providing an environment that nurtures and enhances the unique talent of every student joining The TAS Family.

Bandita Bose, Unchainedreamz

Right from the beginning of her career, Bandita Bose wanted to do something for her own self, on her own. The wife of a fighter pilot, she used to work from home in a telecommunication company as a marketing expert. However, she and her best friend decided to do something different and started selling craft products using Facebook; now, she is now the founder of a successful startup called Unchainedreamz.

Meena Ganesh, Portea

Meena Ganesh is the CEO and MD of Portea which is one of India’s largest home healthcare companies. She has been working around the clock to bring quality healthcare into people’s homes. She has done her education from IIM-C and then NIIT after which she worked for Price water house Coopers and Microsoft.

Naiyya Saggi, BabyChakra

A Harvard business graduate, when many of her friends started getting married, Naiyya began to see how the experience of new parenting was confounding all her friends. She saw popular Q&A threads and Facebook groups swarming with questions about parenting and other relevant aspects. Identifying a problem that needed to be solved, Naiyya began BabyChakra — a platform that helps parents access local services relating to parenting, maternity, and childcare. Parenting is a tough journey, but BabyChakra is helping new parents breathe a little easier.
