One of the biggest automakers, Toyota uses artificial intelligence to build a futuristic city for 2,000 staff members and families. Yes, of course, the city will be run by robots. The city is governed by an operating system and self-driving vehicles have roads to move forward without any hassle.

Toyota has launched the foundation of 175 acres of smart city land. The company says it will serve as a “living laboratory” that raises many eyebrows with artificial intelligence and futurist technologies. “Woven City” is located 62 miles from Tokyo.

The purpose of building such a city is to serve as a testing centre for modern technology that can be installed in other urban environments such as robotics, AI and interconnected smart homes.

Toyota had announced this futurist project at CES 2020 in January last year. The city has three types of roads that will be connected to the ground floor – a road for pedestrians, a road for those using e-scooters for their private vehicles, and a road to self-driving cars. Although these roads are public, there will also be a traditional road beneath the city, which will be used to carry goods.

Toyota launched the self-driving vehicle E-Pallet in 2018, which is expected to be the main transportation of the woven urban project. Toyota said their e-palette was “mediocre and customizable” for various activities such as ride-sharing, delivery services, mobile offices and hotels.

More than 2,0 employees and families with AI technology and various integrated robotic systems will stay in smart homes to help monitor people’s health and other basic needs, including daily life and sensor-based artificial intelligence.

The project has been phased out, with 360 residents of different ages and some Toyota workers, including their families, scientists and inventors, testing the effectiveness of technical solutions.

Will all futuristic technology interfere with human relations? Toyota said that “promoting human relations will be an important aspect of this experience.” Building a small-scale whole city is a unique opportunity to develop future technologies, including a digital operating system for city infrastructure. “

“By connecting people, buildings and vehicles and communicating through data sensors, we can test the associated AI technology in the virtual and physical sectors, maximizing its potential,” said Toyoda on AI technology.
