Nov 15, 2012: Toyoto Motor Corp has announced that it will be recalling 2.8 million vehicles worldwide which is the second biggest recall over a month. The vehicles are being recalled for fixing water pump and steering related problems. The recalls include its hybrid model of cars, Prius. The recall is said to cost the company 30 to 40 Billion Yen. Nearly 6, 30,000 hybrid vehicles are being recalled to replace water pumps and the rest to fix a steering component. Some vehicles have both these problems resulting in overlaps and hence might cause some delay in repair, which otherwise may just take an hour or so. Toyota which had production related problems because of natural disasters in Japan & Thailand last year had reclaimed the number one spot this year. Though Toyota is known for quality, this recall is definitely going to affect its reputation at least for the time being.
