Triumph has unveiled the Tiger 850 sport globally in a press conference a few months ago and there was confirmation that it is going to make its way to Indian shores soon. The newly launched Tiger 850 will replace the base variants of the Tiger 900. The motorcycle remains mechanically unchanged and uses the same engine seen on the 900, but the engine is tuned down to produce 85hp of power and 82nm of torque compared to the 900 producing 95hp and 87nm of torque. The transmission uses a shift and assist 6-speed unit and a quick shifter is also offer as an optional accessory.
Triumph has made the new 850 to appeal to both the newbies and the experienced riders with its rider-friendly ergonomics. The engine is being turned so that the motorcycle can be ridden in a higher gear at lower speeds while tipping the scale at 192kg.
The motorcycle comes with two riding modes rain and road which can be used accordingly to alter the throttle response and traction control intervention, and switchable dual-channel ABS. The braking mechanism used is the same as the one seen in the 900 a 4 piston Brembo Stylema calipers and 320 mm floating rotors in the front and a single-piston Brembo caliper with 255 mm disc at the rear. Being a road-biased variant, both the wheels use alloy wheels with a 19 inch in the front and 17 inches at the rear. The instrument console is a fully digital 5-inch TFT panel that displays a lot of information and offers good visibility in daylight.
The same tubular steel chassis as the 900 is carried over to the 850. The suspension uses a Marzocchi USD fork non-adjustable and a Marzocchi shock preload-adjustable at the rear.
Triumph launched the Tiger 850 sport at a base price of Rs 11.95 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
