UK Government and IBM signs a deal for public cloud access

It is a three-year public cloud agreement between Crown Commercial Services, the UK Cabinet Office, and IBM, which will allow the public sector to come up with new digital solutions and services.

All the Central Government organizations including education and NHA can enjoy the benefits under the agreement, can develop new services.

Chief executive of Crown Commercial Services (CCS), Simon Tse, the agreement with IBM caters value to public sector organizations, as they continue to improve and innovate services for the citizens across the UK.

The public cloud of IBM is constructed on open-source software with more than 190 cloud-native APIs, such as AI, blockchain, Internet of Things, serverless, and DevOps. This caters flexibility to organizations to access services directly, helping the sectors in the issues such as data, security, services, and workflows.

Organizations will have access to the public cloud including IBM Multi-cloud, Manager, IBM Cloud Paks, Red Hat OpenShift, Cloud Garages, Power Virtual Servers on Cloud VMware, and Cloud Migration Services.

Vice president for the public sector at IBM, UK, and Ireland Janine Cook said that the public sector is continuously adapting digital transformation, which is reliable, resilient, and secure technology to meet the needs of citizens and meet complex security and regulatory requirements. It is an open hybrid cloud platform, built and managed with IBM technical expertise, that allows the public sector to come up with new services and provide a quicker way to develop digital services and take a new step to the cloud journey.

This came after the agreement between Google Cloud and UK Government in June 2020. The agreement enables public bodies as well as NHS to benefit discounts on products. Google Cloud said that the agreement makes things easier for public sectors to use their services in order to increase innovation and adopt digital transformation.

Recently, a leading cancer center in the UK launched its first AI virtual agent. It was adopted with the help of IBM Watson, through IBM public cloud. It helps hospitals to manage their workforce more effectively and efficiently during the COVID-19 crisis.
