The Eight Network, a first-of-its-kind audio streaming platform, is upending how Indians consume audio content and interact with artists, just like they do on video platforms.
The Eight Network dubbed an “Open Interactive Social Radio Platform,” was founded by Mohit Paliwal (IIT Kharagpur), Yugal Tamang (Ex Amazon), and Mohit Goswami (IIT Kharagpur) and is powered by user-generated content.
By creating their own station and asking others to watch the live stream, anyone may become a broadcaster. In order to achieve this goal, they are hosting a virtual talent show called ‘Unmute‘ on The Eight App from February 4th to February 6th, 2022.
This event is intended to give budding Voice Artists a platform in areas such as Storytelling, Poetry, and Singing. Unmute is also India’s first mobile-only reality show, with prizes ranging from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.5 million up for grabs.
Over the last few years, Indian audio listenership has steadily increased, shifting away from traditional radio and toward podcasts and on-demand OTT audio streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Gaana, and others.
With over 600 million internet users, the streaming Audio apps segment accounts for about 250 million, making it a rich and rapidly growing market. These OTT Audio platforms, on the other hand, are primarily focused on developing personalized, on-demand audio experiences that favor private listening, ignoring the engagement gap between artists and fellow listeners.
Eight was created to fill this void by offering a Social Radio experience. The app is a live streaming platform that allows audio makers and listeners to interact in a fun and innovative way while also discovering new material from independent content creators.
The Eight Network is largely focused on providing audio artists such as singers, storytellers, poets, and even virtual DJs with a platform to display their voice and content in a very portable and hassle-free setting, allowing them to establish themselves as audio influencers/celebrities.
Listeners, on the other hand, can tune in at any moment to hear original music or select from a roster of on-boarded musicians, start their own podcast, express their ideas, or simply share their thoughts.
The Eight Network is currently the only UGC platform in the Audio arena that focuses on content creators and lets anyone with good content or a good voice to launch a show.
Their three-day audio reality event, ‘Unmute,’ India’s first mobile-only audio reality competition, is a step toward attracting and engaging new and creative audio makers to The Eight Network.
‘Unmute’ is a competition that provides a platform for budding Voice Artists in categories such as Storytelling, Poetry, and Singing, as well as the chance to earn prizes worth Rs 1.5 lakh. Unmute will take place from February 4th to February 6th, 2022, and will allow listeners to communicate and interact with their favorite creators.
