VPN service providers are in a bit of confusion right now. The Indian Government has announced that the VPN providers will have to collect and store data related to their users for a minimum of 5 years. Then they will also have to share the data when asked by the Government.

In reply, ExpressVPN has decided to move its servers out of India. It has the objection that the new rules implemented by the Indian Government will hamper the freedom of the people to use the internet. So to protect the privacy of its users, they will move out their servers from India.

The VPN service providers, all around the world are following the rule of no log data. It means that they are willingly not storing the names, email addresses, session details and IP addresses of the users to protect their privacy. People anywhere on the planet use VPNs to hide and protect their identities from misuse.

On the other hand, other VPN service providers in India like NordVPN and ProtonVPN have also raised objections to the Government’s directives. They have also indicated that they will also pull out their servers from the country if the new rules remain unchanged.

Now, the users of these services in India, need not worry. It is because their services will not be affected. Since they live in India, so for their safety their internet traffic is directed toward the servers located outside the country. This protects them from being identified. On the other hand, the Indians who are living outside India will face problems if they are using the servers located in India.

All of these have raised concerns in the mind of the people. With the increase in concerns over the freedom of internet use, people are now using newer techniques to protect their identity and use the internet freely. It also raises concerns about the future of the internet in India. As Web 3.0 is approaching, people want the internet to remain free for all. This will enable people to communicate freely with each other without any fear of being under surveillance.
