The sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, and lack of physical activity have all been contributing factors to the rise in obesity among people of all ages.

Due to the pandemic and the festive season, MediBuddy, India’s largest digital healthcare platform, has recently seen a spike in queries about weight management and related health issues.

The healthcare platform saw a 73 percent increase in consultations related to overweight issues and a 23 percent increase in consultations related to obesity among individuals.

According to the data, men were more likely to have queries, with 67 percent of patients being male compared to 32 percent being female.

The majority of these patients were young people aged 19 to 29, who accounted for nearly 70% of all consultation requests, followed by patients aged 30 to 40, who accounted for 12% of all consultation requests.

The underlying issues that contribute to weight gain and obesity can be diverse and vary from person to person. It could be due to heredity or genetic factors in many cases. It could also be a lack of physical and outdoor activities in some cases.

It’s also possible that it’s a side effect of another condition, such as thyroid disease or medication. When weight gain exceeds a threshold of concern, it is critical to maintaining weight control because it can lead to serious illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, gallbladder disease, breathing problems, and more.

If one’s weight exceeds the range of normal to healthy on a BMI scale, it’s recommended that they see a doctor right away.

Satish Kannan, Co-founder and CEO of MediBuddy, said of the findings, “The increasing issues related to weight gain, particularly amongst young individuals, is a rather concerning matter.” An increasing number of people are experiencing weight-related issues as a result of WFH, limited exercise, and poor eating habits. These issues must be addressed as soon as possible so that they don’t turn into bigger, more serious health problems.

“At MediBuddy, we have always urged people to embrace and maintain a healthy lifestyle, and we will continue to do so.” “People must prioritize their health and well-being today in order to have a better tomorrow,” Kannan said.

MediBuddy has been at the vanguard of India’s digital healthcare transformation. They recently passed the 7-thousand vaccination mark and are preparing to offer vaccinations to children as well, following government regulations.

During the second wave, MediBuddy launched several initiatives, including a Hospital Bed Availability Tracker, a 24-hour helpline number, and a Coronavirus Risk Assessment Tool, in addition to vaccinations, to help combat the coronavirus outbreak and contribute to the virus’s fight.
