In collaboration with Yuvaa, WhatsApp has launched a week-long #OnlineSafety campaign. The #TakeCharge campaign kicked off on ‘Safer Internet Day (February 8), with a series of infotainment content on Yuvaa’s Instagram page.
Its goal is to raise awareness about online safety by encouraging people to understand the various safety tools and resources available to help them stay safe online. The campaign will address various aspects of online safety and the best practices that people should follow to stay in control of their safety on the Internet through the voices of a diverse set of creators.
Taneesha Mirwani, Anchal Agarwal, Anmol Sachar, and Shreya Kapoor, among others, will share important content about Internet safety, such as understanding best online practices, digital payments, group controls, and so on, to educate users on how to better manage their online presence and interactions.
“WhatsApp is an industry leader among private end-to-end encrypted messaging services in promoting online security,” said Abhijit Bose, WhatsApp’s head of India, of the #TakeCharge campaign. Apart from constantly innovating on the product side to build safety features, WhatsApp also deploys dedicated teams of data scientists, analysts, security experts, as well as AI and ML to keep users safe online 24x7x365.”
“In addition, it has been our ongoing goal to raise user safety awareness and education.” Our current ‘Safer Internet Day’ campaign is another attempt to educate users about the importance of online safety and how they can #TakeCharge to navigate the Internet safely.”
The campaign emphasises five rules that users can follow to take control of their safety:
1) Be wary of what you click or believe: The Internet is full of spam messages, cyber threats, and scams, whether it’s winning a cash prize or a fully sponsored trip from an unknown number. These messages frequently include links to websites or requests for access to your personal information through the use of disguised malware.
2)Consider your options before forwarding messages: WhatsApp has created a label for all forwarded messages and limited the number of times you can forward messages to encourage users to think twice before sharing. If you are unsure whether something is true or if you do not know who wrote the message, do not forward it because it may contain false information.
3) Make online payments through secure sites: The Reserve Bank of India has repeatedly emphasised the importance of safe digital banking by taking all necessary precautions when conducting any digital (online/mobile) banking/payment transactions.
4)Maintain control over what you share: When using the internet, it is critical to protect one’s personal information and privacy. Sharing sensitive information like your address, phone number, passwords, credit/debit card numbers, and bank account information should be avoided.
5)Enable Two-Factor Authentication: Two-Factor Authentication adds an extra layer of security for the user. By enabling the Two-Step Verification feature, WhatsApp users can add an extra layer of security to their accounts. WhatsApp launches #TakeCharge campaign on ‘Safer Internet Day’…
